Environmentally friendly and safe disposal of chip cards

The crossed-out bin symbol on the card indicates that the card must not be disposed of with household waste. Cards that contain a microchip are classed as electrical devices under the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act. Proper disposal of electrical devices is a personal contribution to the sustainable use of natural resources.
If you no longer need your card, you can return it to a collection point for electronic devices, where it can be recycled. You can find out the location of your nearest collection point from your local authority.

How to dispose of your chip card securely:
To protect your expired card from being misused by third parties, we recommend that you destroy the sensitive information on and in the card before handing it in at a collection point. For example, you can shred the card with a suitable paper shredder. Alternatively, you can cut the card across the chip, magnetic stripe and data line. Please ensure you destroy the chip and magnetic strip and obscure all legible personal data such as your name, IBAN, card number on the front of the card and security code on the back.
